Farmstead Zagorje in the Pochinok district is called «the spring of inspiration». It is the birthplace of poet A.T. Tvardovskij. The complex of farmstead buildings is restored and a museum exposition is created here. Annually in June, a literary holiday is held in Zagorje. The Pochinok district is the birthplace of the world famous traveller N.M. Przhevalskij (the Village Kimborovo), the pilot, twice the Hero of the Soviet Union, V.D.Lavrinenkov (the Village Ptahino).

The history kept up to now the legend about the feat of the warrior Mercury. It runs about the Smolensk campaign of Mongolian army. According to this legend, Mercury with the detachment of Russian warriors went towards the enemy troops and near the Village Dolgomostje defeated them, thereby he prevented the seizure of Smolensk. The victory was darken by the death of Mercury, which was canonized later by the Orthodox Church. Now there is a memorial mark on the legendary place, and annually in September a theatrical show takes place there...
