Towns of Smolensk region

Novodugino

The building of the settlement Novodugino began with the laying of the railway that joined two towns: Vjazma and Rzhev. It is situated at a distance of 205 km to the Northeast of Smolensk. The first mention about Dugino was in 1887. There were many beautiful countryseats here. The names of their owners are known all over Russia: the Sheremetjevs, the Mesherskijs, the Griboedovs, the Saltikovs, the Homjakovs, the Panins and etc.

There still exist the remains of the park-architectural ensemble in the Village Visokoe and in Aleksandrino (the former countryseat of the Lobanovo-Rostovskojs), projected by N. Benua.

There are many memorial places there, connected with the events of the Great Patriotic War in 1941–1945.

There works the history museum of regional study in the settlement. Conferences devoted to the live and work of A.S. Homjakov are held here..
